Mounted Orienteering and Saddle Fitting at 7IL Trails
Saturday August 16th
Come join us and try out the exciting sport of mounted
orienteering. Teams of 2 to 4 horse and rider combos follow a map to ride
a marked trail and find observation stations. At each station use clues
and compasses to triangulate a hidden marker. Improve your team’s score
by answering trivia questions and finding scavenger hunt items along the
way. Winners to be determined by total length of time on trail to
find all markers minus one minute for each trivia question answered correctly
and minus two minutes for each scavenger hunt item found. Missed markers
will add 10 minutes each to total time. The course will be approx 6 miles
long with 5 objective stations. Please bring an orienteering type base
plate compass found in the camping section at many stores such as Wal-Mart and
Academy or we will have some available to purchase at check in. A
practice station will be set up in camp to teach all participants how to use a
base plate compass for mounted orienteering. Junior riders must wear
helmets.
John Nowell, of Specialized
Saddles, will be at the 7IL for saddle fit analysis with a computerized saddle
pad which measures pounds of pressure per square inch and prints out a graphic
image of how and where your saddle does or does not fit.
